Selling Online Part-time May Not Make You Rich But Could Be Fun
March 10th, 2010
Apparently thousands of people can make money online at amazing rates. With today’s economy it may not be a bad idea to think about ways of making some extra cash. Jobs that were once considered secure are now being downsized with the development of new technology or the outcome of registered voter ballots.
The best way to sell something is to have a good understanding of it. When choosing what you want to sell make sure you have used it and love it. You can’t be a good salesman if you can’t endorse the product. You could research what the best selling product is on the Internet for a home business but that is time consuming and everyone else is probably thinking the same thing.
Something that does not really require knowledge of, but a love of, is books. People who love to read will keep their books forever but is that really necessary. The classics are definitely keepers. And some of the how-to books like the best gardening book whose information is timeless should also be kept for reference.
If you want to be lazy you can sell your books at online book service websites. You just enter the ISBN number on their website and they take care of everything else. They will list the book and then when it sells you will be notified. That is good enough for some people but I like sales transactions to be a little more personable.
Building your own website and listing your books would be much more rewarding. Writing up brief descriptions of each book would give you a greater sense of satisfaction knowing that you personally contributed to the sale of the books. Of course, some are not going to need descriptions. What more would you need to write about a book titled ‘Best Golf Instruction Book‘?
You could personalize your website to make it inviting to come back to. Include an online chat where people could request certain books. Maybe other people in the chat room would know how to get those books so you could all help each other to get the books that people wanted. Because really a business should try to give the people what they want. If you don’t have what they are looking for help them to find it. Customer satisfaction always brings them back.
So you are not going to get rich quick with this way of thinking but you can make new friends and have fun in the process. And you never know networking is one of the best ways to put yourself out there for new opportunities. Plus you have just created your own business so you can write-off any expenses for tax breaks. That in it self should be worth something.
